This department was established to cultivate researchers and engineers who can play key roles in the development of core technologies for the new industries of the 21st century.
Mathematics and physics provide the disciplinary foundations of science and engineering. Through study in these fields, students acquire theoretical approaches and fundamental knowledge with a wide range of applications. In their first year of study, students select from one of the following two courses in which to pursue their subsequent learning and research.● Course in Mathematics
Designed to produce wellbalanced, capable graduates, the curriculum of the Course in Mathematics combines mathematical fundamentals at the beginning of the course and various fields of pure and applied mathematics toward the end, complemented by a wealth of smallgroup classes and seminars.
● Course in Physics
Lectures in this course are linked closely to activities in seminars and laboratory sessions, providing students with a solid grounding in physics from the fundamentals through to specialist fields. Graduates will have the capacity to mobilize their theoretical knowledge in a variety of applications.
